Summerville commits part of hospitality fee for boutique hotel.

Summerville Town Council on Monday gave initial approval to spending $9.5 million over the next 20 years to fund its portion of a controversial boutique hotel and conference center planned for the historic downtown.

Council voted unanimously in the special meeting to approve the sale of limited obligation 20-year bonds pledging hospitality fees. The town plans to spend about 20 percent of its annual accommodations tax, or $600,000 annually, for up to 20 years to fund its portion of the $30 million project.
